The Basic computer language has been around since the 1960s. When
personal computers became popular in the 1980s, many of the early DOS
application systems were written in Basic language. Although Basic is
rarely used today, object-oriented versions of the language such as Visual
Basic are widely used.
Many older coders began their coding careers using Basic. Basic
programming skills, however, are rarely needed today. The acronym
"Basic" stands for "Beginner's All-purpose Symbolic Instruction Code".
